“Music has taken me to new places and has connected me with incredible people. I play to heal, inspire, and bring people closer to nature and themselves. I hope to share my music with more people, spreading love and positivity globally to keep on putting my seed for the good”
We caught up with Claudio aka La Payara ahead of his first Australian tour. La Payara’s music has been a mainstay and an inspiration for us here at Mahico. We talk to his musical inspiration, playing at festivals such as fusion festival in Germnay and a a little of what we can expect to hear from him at Mahico “ Dia De Los Muertos” November 2nd.

Colombia has such a rich diversity of traditional music spanning from region to region. What are some of the genres that have influenced you the most musically?

Music grabbed me early on, as I witnessed the dawn of the digital age seamlessly blend with the analog. My childhood soundtracks were filled with rock and Latin, but it was during Christmas vacations in Colombia, surrounded by family and the vibrant sounds of Llanero and Caribbean music, that my love for music truly took root. Those formative experiences, fostered by my parent’s love for this terretories, not only shaped my musical tastes but also inspired me to explore the art of music-making.

You have played on some of the world's biggest stages over the span of your career including Glastonbury, Fusion Festival and Woomoon. What have been some of the highlights for you?

For me playing in those stages has helped me explore the world and many other places that are not so highlighted by the music industry and they have taken me to do my ritual ceremony even more spiritual and significant. Music has taken me to new places and has connected me with incredible people. I play to heal, inspire, and bring people closer to nature and themselves. I hope to share my music with more people, spreading love and positivity globally to keep on putting my seed for the good.

Mahico was created to share values of Latin America is Australia through Music, art and food and we couldn’t think of a better fit for our Mahico festival. What can our Mahico dancers expect to hear from your live set in November?

This tour will be a journey through the diverse regions that have shaped my life's path. beat making mixed with talented visionaries. The landscapes of my life, where psychedelic rhythms meet ancient wisdom, the threads of diverse cultures, collaborating spirits to honor the treasures of this legacy that has been passed down through generations.

Lastly, I believe this is your first time down under and well you are in very good hands with your tour hosts Isu Taki and Mahico. What are you most looking forward to seeing / experiencing in Australia?

To open my heart to new beautiful souls, I step into Australian expecting a life enriching experience. Discover new territories with the incredible nature's kaleidoscope. May this journey be a tapestry of wonder, woven with gratitude and love. Thank you so much for the opportunity.
